LRN #00 – 5 Things I’ve Learned about Esports Motion Graphics

Epic Seven – Aramintha, Winrate Graphic

Being a designer for so long, I forget that although the principles are the same, how design is expressed in different industries varies. This week I had the opportunity to delve into gaming motion graphics and rekindled my interest.

5 Things I've learned while I tried to pickup what the designers do in this industry:

  1. Esports Motion Graphics stems from Sports Motion Graphics, you know things you see on ESPN, especially from NBA and NFL.

  2. Motion graphics is a skill in demand in the gaming industry's marketing department, as companies are reinvesting in Marketing to revitalize Esports.

  3. Motion graphics like these are much more accessible than doing ones for Product design UI and is super easy to transfer the skill.

  4. Simple edit cuts of text, texture, images are more effective motions than smooth ones, which also require more talent and experience in animation.

  5. Finding the right asset packs is your friend for creating industry-standard graphics.

I've been captivated by Esports graphics in recent years and really needed an excuse to try them out myself. I mean they pump you up and is just plain awesome looking. I mean have you seen this Fortnite Website Design by Fulcrum Rocks Design? Or this awesome motion trailer: RLCS Spring Hyper Trailer? or this Valorant Champions Tour below?

It took me a day to create this, brushing up on my old motion graphics knowledge. I remembered why I started design in the first place and it all started with motion graphics, learning After Effects through Video Copilot back in the day, good times.

Also, had the pleasure of learning about @smilegate_official one of the leading gaming companies in Korea. They've created @playlostark and @epicseven_global.
All in all, it was a fun experience. Also, made the assets on the second image entirely on @figma
